Co-founded by C.R. and James Altstatt, True Hop Field Co. brings major league precision and community-driven passion to local diamonds, high school fields, and municipal parks across Arizona. With over a decade of elite groundskeeping experience and a shared commitment to excellence, C.R. and James have built a company rooted in craftsmanship, integrity, and a deep love for the game.
The Journey of C.R.
C.R.’s journey began at the Oakland A’s Spring Training Complex, where mentor Chad Huss instilled the values of pride and attention to detail. He went on to refine his skills under industry legends:
• Roger Bossard – Chicago White Sox
• Eric Hansen – Los Angeles Dodgers
• Grant Trenbeth – Arizona Diamondbacks
• Marshall Jennings – Salt River Fields
Under their guidance, C.R. mastered turfgrass nutrition, soil science, irrigation audits, and full-scale field renovations—skills that now define True Hop’s professional-grade results.
A Turning Point, A New Beginning:
After years of spring training and game nights, C.R.’s career reached a turning point. Following the heartbreaking loss of his daughter Avery Marie, he made a life-changing decision: to step away from stadium life and build something lasting—for his family, his community, and for the love of the game.
With James’s unwavering support and shared vision, True Hop Field Co. was born.
Called Back to the Game:
Shortly after stepping away, the Colorado Rockies reached out, inviting C.R. to consult on their Triple-A facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico, home of the Albuquerque Isotopes. He was tasked with restoring the field to professional standards and mentoring a young groundskeeper to take over as head groundskeeper—a testament to his reputation, leadership, and dedication to passing on the craft.
A Legacy in Motion:
In the midst of this new chapter, C.R. and his wife Jessica were blessed with the birth of their son, CJ—a joyful reminder of resilience, love, and the legacy they continue to build together.
